日本では、パンデミックという言葉をepidemicまたはoutbreakという意味で誤用しているケースがかなりあるので要注意。

Pandemicは、感染症の世界的な大流行を意味する。世界全体ではなく国や地域が限定された感染症流行はepidemic、突発的に発生し急拡大する場合はoutbreakという。
従って、「東京でパンデミックになったら〜」等の表現は誤用である。
