補足・特記事項など

馬の下あごに装着する「大勒銜（たいろくはみ、英curb bit）」を引いて、馬の挙動をコントロールすることを curb という動詞で表したもの。
類語: check, control, restrain
名詞として「制限、制約」という意味でも用いられるが、同語源といわれる「縁石」curb（英式綴りでは kerb) を動詞として転用したものを、比喩的に「制限」という意味で用いるようになったとは考えにくい。
