補足・特記事項など
「新型コロナウイルス」は、感染が限定的だったころは一般的なニュースでも丁寧に "the novel[new] coronavirus" と表記されていたが（このころは一般名詞扱いで、初出の場合は冠詞は不定冠詞だった。あとで用例追加予定）、感染が中国の外に拡大し、英語圏でも頻繁にニュースになるようになると "novel" が取れて "the coronavirus" と表記されることが増えてきた（そのあともnovelやnewを付ける例が完全に消えたわけではない）。
当初日本では、厚生労働省や各地方自治体が公式サイトに埋め込んでいる機械翻訳（K電社のもの）がこの「新型」を扱いきれず、またその他もろもろを扱いきれず、ひどい「訳」（と称するもの）を量産していた。
