細菌を対象とするdisinfectionは、「除菌」と訳せる。しかしウイルスは細菌ではないので、新型コロナウイルスを環境から排除する作業を指して「除菌」「除菌消毒」などの語を使うのは不適切。ダイヤモンド・プリンセス号におけるdisinfection作業は、編集工程を経たある日本語記事で「消毒」「除染」と表現されていた。
